Industrial Electrician Apprenticeship

One of the largest engineering companies in the South East is offering an Industrial Electrician Apprenticeship to expand their current maintenance team. Your new company

Established for over 45 years, this family-owned hydraulic cylinder manufacturer is going from strength to strength and currently expanding. Burnside Eurocyl works hard at establishing a solid business relationship with original equipment manufacturers all over Europe and North America. Located in Carlow Town, County Carlow, under 10 mins drive from the M9 and under 40 mins from Kilkenny, Portlaoise, and Bunclody. The company currently operates with 230+ staff and a result of continuous growth now have an industrial electrician apprenticeship vacancy to expand its maintenance team.

Your new role

You’ll join a small multi-disciplinary maintenance team and report directly to the department supervisor. You’ll receive a blend of on-the-job at Burnside Eurocyl and classroom training with Department of Education and Skills, over the duration of the four-year programme. You’ll be involved in electrical operations, general maintenance, troubleshooting and have responsibility for installation, calibration, repair, and maintenance of a range of manufacturing machinery, in accordance with the site training manuals, operating procedures and safety procedures. You’ll install and repair electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment, following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications, using hand-tools, power-tools, and electrical and electronic test equipment. As the company operates a multi-skilled, flexible work policy you’ll be required to work at different jobs from time to time. The above list of duties is not exhaustive.

What you need to succeed

You’ll be dependable, consistent, punctual and equipped with a desire to get assigned tasks completed. You must eligible to undertake the SOLAS Standard Based Apprenticeship Programme (See www.apprenticeship.ie). You’ll have a minimum of an O6 grade in six subjects, including maths and English and one of the following subjects: Science, Design and Communication Graphics, Engineering, Construction, and Agricultural Science. You must possess a genuine interest in electrical tasks with a technical aptitude and provide support to this assertion. You’ll demonstrate excellent coordination and hand skills. You’ll have experience working in a team environment, preferably some in a manufacturing setting and also have the ability to work on your own initiative. You’ll be open to learning new skills, naturally curious while being a good listener and prepared for operating in a physically demanding environment. You’ll have to work 39 hours per week, be flexible to work overtime, Saturdays and to report on either of the shifts available:


1st Shift: 
Mon – Thurs      8:00am – 4:30pm
Fri                         8:00am – 3:30pm


2nd Shift           
Mon                      4:30pm – 1:00am
Tue – Thurs        4:30pm – 2:00 am
Fri                           3:30pm – 7:30pm


What you’ll get in return

You’ll get competitive apprentice rates working for us and we’ll pay you weekly. You’ll be enrolled into the SOLAS Standard Based Apprenticeship programme and upon completion, you’ll receive a QQI Award Level 6 Advanced Craft Certificate. This qualification is recognised both nationally and internationally. You’ll have steady hours and short commutes to work, allowing you to maximise your free time. You will be paid time and a half for overtime hours and you will be entitled to floating days and holiday pay.
